• Developed sophisticated 3D animations and graphics to visually communicate complex chemical processes and accident scenarios, enhancing the client’s ability to convey critical safety information.
  • Created adaptable visual content for use across multiple platforms, including safety videos, training modules, and interactive applications, maximizing the reach and impact of the client’s safety messages.
  • Transformed technical investigation findings into engaging, easily understandable visual formats, improving comprehension and retention of crucial safety concepts among diverse audiences.
  • Strengthened the client’s advocacy efforts by providing compelling visual tools to influence industry practices, inform regulatory decisions, and raise public awareness about chemical safety issues.

This client needed to effectively communicate complex chemical processes, accident recreations, and safety recommendations to a broad audience. As an independent federal agency tasked with investigating chemical accidents and preventing future occurrences, the client needed a way to portray key findings and lessons learned from their investigations visually. Traditional methods of communication were insufficient to convey the intricate details of chemical processes and accident scenarios, making it difficult for workers, the public, and industry stakeholders to grasp the importance of safety measures and recommendations.

Action:

We implemented a comprehensive video and 3D computer animation program to address this challenge to support the client’s Office of Congressional, Public, and Board Affairs’ safety video initiative. Our team of skilled animators and graphic designers worked closely with the client’s video producer and investigation team to develop sophisticated, accurate forensic computer animations depicting chemical accidents. We created detailed storyboards and animatics to visualize complex scenarios before moving into full production.

Our animations included intricate recreations of chemical facility and refinery environments and detailed views of specific equipment, vehicles, and characters representing workers and emergency responders. We also depicted molecular and large-scale chemical interactions and events such as fires and blast waves. To ensure accuracy, we based our animations on actual plant layouts, designs, photos, schematics, and witness testimony provided by the client.

In addition to the animations, we developed graphics, logos, and other visual elements to be incorporated into the videos and used on the client’s website and investigation reports. We also provided sound mixing and design services to enhance the overall impact of the safety videos.

Result:

Our work resulted in a series of high-quality, visually compelling safety videos, each typically less than 15 minutes in length. These videos effectively translated the client’s complex investigation findings and recommendations into easily understandable visual formats. The animations provided clear, accurate representations of chemical processes and accident scenarios, allowing viewers to grasp critical safety concepts more easily than through traditional text-based reports alone.

The graphics and animations we created were also adaptable for use in training modules and other interactive applications, extending their utility beyond the initial safety videos. This versatility allowed the client to leverage the visual content across multiple platforms and communication channels, maximizing the reach and impact of their safety messages.

Benefit:

The implementation of this video and animation program provided several significant benefits to the client. First and foremost, it greatly enhanced the agency’s ability to fulfill its mission of preventing chemical accidents by making complex safety information more accessible and engaging to a wide audience. The visually striking animations helped capture and maintain viewer attention, increasing the likelihood that important safety messages would be remembered and acted upon.

The program also bolstered the client’s efforts to advocate for safety and achieve change through recommendations, outreach, and education. By presenting investigation findings in a visually compelling format, the client was better equipped to influence industry practices, inform regulatory decisions, and raise public awareness about chemical safety issues.

Furthermore, the animations’ adaptability for use in training modules and interactive applications provided the client with valuable resources for ongoing education and outreach efforts. This extended the impact of their investigations beyond the initial report release, creating lasting tools for promoting safety in the chemical industry.
